Our Trip to New World

Aloha whanau!

Today we took a bus to New World where we met Adele. She challenged us to find a wide range of food items in the supermarket and read the nutritional information label on the back of the packet. We recorded the amount of sugar, sodium, fat and energy that each product had.

When we got back to school, we talked about the different ways that companies advertise their products. We found it really interesting that sometimes a product looks healthy or has a reduced fat sticker on it but this doesn't necessarily mean it is a good choice for our bodies.

Food For Thought

Hi everyone.

Today we had a very special visit from Adele. She came to talk to us about healthy eating how important it is to make good decisions about what we choose to eat and drink. Adele taught us how to read food labels so that we can get more information about whats in the food. we we surprised at how much sugar and fat some breakfast cereals have!

We then looked at drinks and had to line them up according to the amount of sugar we thought they might have per 100g.

We can't wait to put this into practice when we visit Adele at the supermarket next week!

Kia Ora bloggers!

On Saturday, Hay Park School will be selling lots of baked goodies at the Molley Green Festival. Today we made a healthy version of honey crackle. We worked in groups to read and follow the instructions. When we had measured all of the ingredients into a pot, we had to melt the butter and honey together. And... of course we had to taste the final product!

Hauora.

Bula Whanau!

We have been busy beavers in Bixley Class! This week we have been learning about how important our well-being or hauora is. We have been looking at our physical, mental and emotional, spiritual and social hauora. It is really important that we take care of all of these dimensions because if one is not working to well, it effects our whole body.

Today Miss Huys gave us a pack of examples of things we do everyday. We working in groups to try and decide which dimension they should be placed under. It was actually really challenging because the more we discussed each example as a group, the more we realised that some could actually fit in all four dimensions!

This was really interesting because it helped us to discover how much the four dimensions of hauora are connected.
